The King's Singers tackle the extremely tortured and personal works of 16th century composer Gesualdo, a relative musical oddball in his own time whose work has been seen in a new light during the 20th century after glowing reviews by the likes of Stravinsky and other musicologists. The pieces included here represent only a part of the liturgy for the Matins Offices on the final three days of Holy Week, the Triduum Sacrum. The whole service would be more material than would fit on a CD! As usual, the 'Singers are brilliant on this repertoire, lending a new life to compositions long thought dead, in more ways than one.
