As heard on National Public Radio! #1 on the Billboard Classical list! Anonymous 4 brings their impeccable musicianship and flawlessly clear singing to an early American repertoire (a big departure from their normal medieval fare). The haunting, stark, pointed harmonies of shape note singing ("Holy Manna," "Wondrous Love") share the aesthetic of early music that they more typically perform. Then they sweetly sing "Sweet Hour of Prayer," "Sweet By and By" and "Shall We Gather By The River" - angels indeed! They include two renditions of the text of "Amazing Grace," neither of which are quite like anything you've heard before. Often, the songs are performed with just two-part harmony, but that wonderfully simple sound harkens back to the earlier times from which these songs are taken.
