Many choral directors are familiar with Shaw and his associate Alice Parker's extensive work in 19th Century American religious music. Most of the 20 pieces on this recording are their work, giving conductors an open invitation to hear many of their published arrangements as interpreted by Shaw himself. The first half of the album includes a variety of hymns, while the second half are all spirituals. Nicely performed by the Festival Singers of The Ohio State University. (54:30 1993)
