A lovely debut recording from this Toronto-based four-woman ensemble. Their light and lilting voices cover a song selection that ranges from traditional Renaissance fare (Gibbons' "The Silver Swan," Morley's "Ho! Who Comes Here," de Vittoria's "Jesu dulcis memoria") to original pieces by Canadian composers (Godfrey Rideout's "Ave Maria," Keith Bissell's "O by the by," Nancy Telfer's "High Flight"). Standouts include Weelkes' "The Nightingale," with gracefully executed vocalacrobatics and Telfer's close-harmony, almost-dissonant "High Flight." (41:35 2001)
