Once again, this 40-voice professional chorus from Minnesotahas produced an exemplary recording. This lovely CD includes 19of our most favorite American folk songs and spirituals:"Oh, Shenandoah," "Black is the Color,""Jeannie With the Light Brown Hair," "DeepRiver," "Buffalo Gals," "The Water isWide" among others. Mainly a cappella, five of the tuneshave a pleasant harp accompaniment ("Red River" has anoboe as well). The recording is very well engineered, capturingthe sweet harmony and incredible blend without losing thesingers' impeccable diction in the echoes. The liner notes matchthe music in attention to detail: a concise history of each song,lyrics, plus the publisher of each arrangement make thisrecording a useful tour guide for any choral director wishing toprogram these fine songs for their own ensembles.
