Once again, this 40-voice professional chorus from Minnesota has produced an exemplary recording. This lovely CD includes 19 of our most favorite American folk songs and spirituals: "Oh, Shenandoah," "Black is the Color," "Jeannie With the Light Brown Hair," "Deep River," "Buffalo Gals," "The Water is Wide" among others. Mainly a cappella, five of the tunes have a pleasant harp accompaniment ("Red River" has an oboe as well). The recording is very well engineered, capturing the sweet harmony and incredible blend without losing the singers' impeccable diction in the echoes. The liner notes match the music in attention to detail: a concise history of each song, lyrics, plus the publisher of each arrangement make this recording a useful tour guide for any choral director wishing to program these fine songs for their own ensembles.
