Seattle Pro Musica Music of the Spirit (CD)

Frank Martin's "Mass for Double Choir" is a richly textured work which requires a choir of exceptional ability. Seattle Pro Music performs it beautifully with clarity and precision in tuning. Gorgeous. Karen P. Thomas, the choir's director, is also the composer of the mysterious and discordant but beautiful "Lux Lucis'. Written for treble voices, this piece gives the excellent women's sections a chance to shine. Hugo Wolf's "Sechs Geistliche Lieder" is the most accessible of the works on this CD. Lovely and deeply felt. In case you thought this ensemble only excels at modern compositions, listen to their exquisite performance of Gregorio Allegi's 1638 setting of Miserere. This CD is classical a cappella at it's finest.(63:58 2005) Song List: Mass for Double Choir: Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus and Benedictus, Agnus Dei (Frank Martin) Beati Quorum Via (Charles Villiers Stanford) Lux Lucis:O virtus Sapientie, O lucidissima apostolurm turba, O nobilissima viriditas (Karen P. Thomas) Sechs Geistliche Lieder: Aufblick, Einkehr, Resignation, Letzte Bitte, Ergebung, Erhebung (Hugo Wolf) Miserere (Gregoria Allegri)
