This CD is a compilation of two albums originally released by Columbia Records in 1959. Most of the tracks are accompanied lightly by guitar, flute, accordion and percussion. Although the folk songs represent 24 different countries, they are sung almost entirely in English. Occasionally a native phrase is thrown in for effect. These folk songs are arranged and performed very solidly. They are performed in an "Americanized" style that would probably not be used today. However, there is a certain nostalgic charm that comes through in the music. (69:12 2002)
