In an attempt to represent at least some of the many nationalities of the population of Canada, this professional men's ensemble from Canada has assembled a collection of folk songs from many different cultures - islands outside of Japan (Ainu songs "Bear Festival", "Pirika, Pirika", "Whale Festival"), China ("Fengyang Ge" arranged by Chen Yi, composer-in-residence for Chanticleer), Samoa ("Minoi, Minoi"), Africa ("The Lion Sleeps Tonight"), Germany ("Gaudeamus igitur"), Ireland ("Dúlamán"), Estonia, England, and America ("Bright Morning Star" and "Shenandoah"). Sometimes accompanied by percussion instruments or flute, their sound is energetic and convincing, throwing themselves fully into the roles of the indigenous peoples who created the music.
