Concordia Choir, The: Salvation Is Created

This is one of the finest collegiate classical choirs we've heard, and they perform completely a cappella. Formed in 1917, the group is one of many renowned music groups at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. Director René Claussen is a well-known composer and choir conductor. The recording opens with five Russian Liturgical Anthems - two by Gretchaninoff, two by Rachmaninoff and a lovely gem by Techesnokoff from which the title of the album is taken. One of the treats on this recording is hearing Claussen direct his "Magnificat." His piece starts a set of six 20th Century motets (Schumann, Sandstrom, Ginasera, Thompson and Forsberg composed the others), which range widely in styles. Sandstrom's "Agnus Dei" is pretty wild. Music directors will appreciate that the publisher of each piece is listed, making it easy to track down arrangements.
