This CD lives up to the sterling, global reputation this children's choir has built since its founding in 1963. Their vocal purity is unmatched, their musical subtlety stunning. The first half of the CD is devoted to Finnish music: Jean Sibelius (stirring "Finlandia Hymn"), Frederik Pacius ("Song of Finland"), and many more. Then there's an international interlude with "Three Japanese Songs" (some of which are accompanied) and pieces by Bach, Handel and Praetorius. Finnish composers conclude the CD, featuring the one major work: Rautavaara's Finnish mystery play, "Marjatta, matala neiti" which is based on a version of the nativity story. Just over 22 minutes long, it includes soloists and instrumentalists drawn from the choir. High standards produces great music! (74:54 1995)
