Wow. That's all there is to say about this piece, commissioned for the Spokane Public Schools Festival of the Arts High School Honors Choir in November of 2001. Inspired by the events of September 11th, 2001, Moses Hogan has scored a piece that includes a narration with text that explores the impact of those events on us as a nation, over the humming choir. Then he proceeds to craft a medley of sorts including "My Country 'Tis of Thee" and "Lift Every Voice and Sing," woven seamlessly together by original sections. The ending on this one will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, just like the rest of you. Some of the piece is unaccompanied, some meant to be sung with piano. A powerful, moving tribute to the people who were involved in the tragic events in September and to the United States in general. Running time: approx. 5:00.
