The sources for the selections on this Christmas season CD by the highly regarded San Francisco Choral Artists are primarily from the Renaissance Era. Even Roger Nixon's Green Grow'th the Holly, a motet from the cycle he composed in 1980, is based upon a 16th century text. Several of the pieces are accompanied by harp and flute, while Sir Christémas is enhanced by a driving and percussive organ accompaniment. There is also a version of "Caroling, Caroling" performed by the Ringmasters, which is strictly handbells. The care taken in choosing the songs to present on this album is only exceeded by their lovely presentation. (56:41 1986)
