Kantorei's fourth CD features pieces by Lauridsen, Clausen and Whitacre exclusively. With beautiful poetry by Rainer Maria Rilke, Lauridsen creates an ethereal choral landscape in "Les Chansons des Roses." (One of these, "Dirait-on" is accompanied by piano.) Clausen's settings of selections from Walt Whitman's "Leaves of Grass" takes us from the atonal melodies to whirling voices to a veritable pinnacle of voices in "The Last Invocation." The CD includes the world premier of "Veni," a soaring piece commissioned by Kantorei from René Clausen, and performed (and recorded for this CD) at the Southwestern Regional ACDA Convention. The disc ends with Whitacre's "I Thank You God For This Most Amazing Day" - and we are thankful for the talent and creativity of this wonderful ensemble for bringing this body of choral work to life. "Some of the most beautifully done performances of some of the most beautiful choral music ever written. I could listen to the Lauridsen pieces every day for the rest of my life. Gorgeous melodies and hauntingly beautiful harmonies, transferred from written music to the ear as well as Kantorei has ever done. The group has a rich and stunningly homogeneous sound."
