Cristóbal de Morales was the most regaled Spanish composer of his day. This mass was written while he was a singer at the Sistine Chapel in Rome, at the same time Michelangelo painted the Chapel (and thus the CD cover art). The text, based on a quotation from Job, is woven into a serious six-part masterpiece 'parody' of the similarly named Verdelot motet that opens the recording. (56:01 2000)
