This piece is billed as a "Kentucky Mountain Ballad," taken from Folk Songs of the Kentucky Mountains, collected and arranged by Josephine McGill, copyright 1917. It's arranged here by Alice Parker and Robert Shaw for four-part mixed choir with tenor solo. The soloist is pretty much the star of the show, with the other parts just humming in the background for much of the piece, but if you've got an animated soloist that can really "sell the story," you've got a winner!
