This beautiful Appalachian carol is arranged here by John Jacob Niles and Lewis Henry Horton. It's part of a larger work, published by G. Schirmer called "Songs of the Hill-Folk," from back in the early part of the twentieth century. It opens with humming in the background and a haunting soprano or tenor solo with the melody. Some nice rhythmic work in the tenor part keeps it interesting as the piece goes on. Lots of opportunities for expression here.
