Choir of Christ Church: In Time of Softest Snow
Be the first to review this product
Vocal music is obviously very important to The Christ Church of Oyster Bay, New York. Their high quality choir is made up of professional and non-professional auditioned singers. The carols on this CD are drawn from the repertoire of their annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols. All of the carols on this CD were composed in the twentieth century. If that scares you a little, don't worry, it is a lovely and interesting assortment of very well-sung songs. Yes, there are some dissonances here and there, no, you won't find "Silent Night" on this one. However, you will find an arrangement of "Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming" (Hugh Distler) and "The Holly and the Ivy" (Reginald Jacques) that you may not know. Charles Ives' "A Christmas Carol" is gorgeous. This is a very talented choir. After listening to this CD you may wish you were a member of their congregation. Tracks 3, 8, 10, and 15 are accompanied by organ. (50:06 2003)
