In 2002 the Esoterics commissioned twelve Washington State composers to create a suite of a cappella horoscopes from the ancient poem, Astronomica, a 1st Century B.C. Latin text by Marcus Manilius. Each composer set verses from his or her own star sign. Born under the sign of the lion, Bartholomew was asked to set the verses for Leo. The work reflects Leo's conflicting natures, with a boisterous passage describing the Lion as $B!H (Balways picking new fights and fresh battles," and the complex and beautiful conclusion as the text decries that "sincerest intention is found in his pure heart."
