While only five of the sixteen songs are a cappella (Kerri Green is their very skilled accompanist), the beautiful piano and occasional oboe parts only enhance the sweet sound of this Salt Lake City women's ensemble. On this, their debut CD, they show what a high-quality auditioned group of amateur singers can sound like. With a mix of contemporary choral music (Gregson's "Missa Brevis" selections are a breath of fresh air; Robert Young's "Set Me as a Seal" and Bestos' "Prayer of the Children" are simply beautiful; Ruth Watson Henderson's "Psalm 100" is joyful in all respects) and traditional folk songs (Frackenpohl's "Annie Laurie" and early American Hymn Tunes "Holy Manna," "Come Thou Font" and "When I Can Read My Title Clear") they weave their musical magic on the listener. Geoffrey Russel-Smith's arrangement of "The Wedding Ring" wraps you up in its imagery so you feel as if you were at the celebration yourself. If you're a fan of women's choral music, this one is definitely one to add to your collection. (50:22 2000)
