This Salt Lake City, Utah-based women's ensemble has been performing quality choral music for women since 1994. Director Jean Applonie is on the Brigham Young University's music education faculty, and under her direction, this group of mostly amateur singers shines. Most of the album is accompanied by piano and/or oboe, and features arrangements by Lana Walter ("Puer Nobis Nascitur," "Gaudete! Gaudete!"), John Rutter ("Candlelight Carol," "Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day") as well as John Leavitt (piano pieces "What Child is This," "Infant Holy, Infant Lowly" and haunting accompanied closer "Bashana Haba'ah") among others. Guest artists Kerri Green on piano (including two solo numbers), Jake Bauman on bass and Holly Gornick on oboe add a peaceful background. No huge, bombastic voices here, just lovely female voices, singing beautiful melodies, both traditional and contemporary ("Joan Szymko's "Hodie" is very well done, and Nicholas Burt's jazzy "Il Est Ne, Le Divin Enfant" is a nice diversion). A very relaxing holiday album, only three out of 15 songs a cappella. (44:50 2002)
