The original composition, published in Wilbye's Second Set of Madrigals (1609), illustrates the fine points of the madrigal style with excellent examples of thematic imitation, harmonic sequences, text painting and dance-like nonsense syllables.

This edition has been changed a little - the pitch has been lowered by a major second; all dynamic indications are suggestions by the editor; certain words have been modernized; optional lower octave pitches in the baritone part have been added for those unable to sing the higher pitches; and a keyboard reduction of the vocal parts has been added for rehearsal purposes.
