"This piece was probably the most challenging song I chose to do with my choir this year. It is challenging for a number of reasons: - The language. There are a LOT of foreign words to get your tongue around. - The length. This goes for about 6 1/2 - 7 minutes - The segues. There are many different sections of different speeds, and it can be a challenge going smoothly from one to another. - The performance elements. As this is such an interesting, energetic song, it requires the performance to be quite visually interesting as well. The men are required to hold and "play" bamboo poles by banging them on the floor, and I think it's important in this type of music to give a lot of thought to the visual element of the performance. However, while all these challenges exist, this is a very exciting song to sing and learn. It is fun to try to create different colours with our voices (always a requirement in Hatfield's music!), and it is very different to the other music we sing. The song has an intense energy about it. And what guys wouldn't love banging bamboo poles on the floor? A really fun piece."
