The unison melody that begins this piece is an adaptation of a South African folksong that speaks of solidarity, and a longing for a true and final home. The Treble II line in the 3/4 sections is inspired by the "Crown Him" refrain from the old hymn tune, Diadem. The sources were chosen, not only because I found them musically inspiring, but because they were thematically relevant to my text, and to the function for which the piece was written - the inauguration of a new dean at Peace College, North Carolina.
