This 2004 holiday release by Canada folk trio Finest Kind is actually a re-telling of Dicken's "Christmas Carol," alternating readings by actor John Huston with performances of traditional (and not-so-traditional) English carols and yuletide gems. Some are taken from their other recordings - "The Gower Wail" (Lost in a Song), "The Homeless Wassail" (Heart's Delight), and a new version of "Shepherd's Arise" (Silks & Spices). Interesting and entertaining liner notes give a summary of each spoken word track as well as historical and musical backgrounds on the tunes sung by the group. A lovely holiday recording, sure to become a tradition yuletide listening experience in your household.
