This South African Zulu song was first recorded in the early 1940s by Solomon Linda. Pete Seeger later transcribed the song for The Weavers. Once adapted to their own style, it become one of their greatest hits.(This information was found at the publisher's website.)

Notes in the sheet music reveal that the arranger, David Dusing, in addition to many other musical activities, has sung as a soloist with Robert Shaw, Pierre Boulez and Morton Gould, as well as with Harry Belafonte, John Raitt and Garrison Keillor, and has a long performing association with Peter Shickele, the "perpetrator of PDQ Bach. The piece calls for two tenor or bass soloists (Falsetto) and optional cabasa.

"I sing in a group which often performs this piece as an encore. It never fails to get the audience smiling and swaying. If you are looking for a cover for The Lion Sleeps Tonight, do not purchase this piece. There is no English in it (but the familiar tune prompts kids to say "Hey, it's the Lion King song!"). If however you are seeking an authentic rendition of the South African song Pete Seeger learned from Solomon Linda and popularized with the Weavers, this is the one."
