Amasong: Over Here the Water is Sweet
Be the first to review this product
Amasong is a feminist/lesbian chorus based in Champaign/Urbana, Illinois. The ensemble's repertoire is varied, including Japanese children's rounds, Zimbabwean burial songs, African-American spirituals and Holocaust resistance music. One might think the lack of specialization means they won't do of any it well - no fear, because this entire album has a lovely, pure, honest sound to it. Especially touching is the Yiddish "Unter Dayne Vayse Shtern," and the Russian "Pajdu Vydu" is enthralling even without knowing the lyrics allude to the fear that women who dance are bad. Mostly a cappella, some recorded live. Definitely recommended for fans of non-classical choral work. (58:07 1997)
