Ponder, Carol Pretty Bird - A Cappella Ballads
Be the first to review this product
Carol Ponder is a musician, educator and archivist, all rolled into one talented individual. For "Pretty Bird" she collected some of her favorite classic ballads in the Southern Mountain Tradition - Appalachian Mountains, that is. Growing up in Western North Carolina, she was exposed to and enamored with these wonderful folk tunes, and she pays homage to them here. Many of the tunes are social commentaries ("Pretty Bird," for one), some more obvious than others. "Wondrous Love" is a classic American folk hymn; "Black Jack Davy" is a classic "story ballad" with origins "across the water." More gems await you on this truly lovely recording. All vocals are lovingly done by Carol (with the occasional male guest), in her strong, sweet soprano. All songs are a cappella. A truly historic album, not to be missed. (38:55 1998)
