This European mixed quartet has put together a lovely collectionof tunes, covering musical stylings from around the globe.Including traditional Renaissance fare ("Bellequi tiens ma vie," "Au joli jeu," "Dindirin"), French folk("Le moulin," "La femme d'un pauvr' homme,"), Americanspirituals ("Down By the River Side," "Nobody Knows the TroubleI've Seen,"), Romanian folk ("Hora miresii," "Hop, tup, tup,""Vine hulpe di la munte"), the recording features both liveand studio tracks. Throughout all, though, the love that thesesingers have for their art and for the styles represented hereshines through. Their renditions of American spirituals sungwith a french/romanian accent is at times a bit distracting,but their energy and musical sensitivity helps us suspenddisbelief for just a while. In all, a very respectable debutfrom a group that has overcome obstacles of language, cultureand geography to bring us their musical gifts. (59:24 1999)
