Sound-Bite From Beijing: Ysaye Barnwell (SSAAA)
Be the first to review this product
This five-part divisi arrangement by Dr. Barnwell was commissioned in 1996 by the GALA Chorus Festival. The lyrics are full of determination and personal strength, mirrored in the strong, march-like quality of the music (the low alto notes thrum like snares, with a repetitive, driving pattern in the second alto). The piece has a canonical aspect as well, as the parts often toss the same melody and/or lyrics around, building to a rhythmic crescendo about halfway through. Scored SSAAA with divisi in the soprano and alto.
