This is the debut album from the United Group Harmony Association's 1996 Rookie Group Of the Year. A 1998 release on Ronnie I's Clifton Records, the Variations are a mixed (four women, one man) group. This gives them a different sound from most a cappella doo-wop groups, and it's a pleasant one. The voices are strong, and the repertoire consists of what they call "obscure" music from the mid '50s to the early '60s, including the soulful "Deceiving Blues" and the Superiors' "Don't Say Goodbye."
