The world-renowned Don Cossacks Choir broke up in 1979. Wanja Hibka and George Tymezenko were soloists in that choir, and in 1991, they founded the ensemble featured here, the Don Kosaken Solisten. Hibka filled the new choir with the best soloists available in Moscow and carried on the tradition of Serge Jaroff, the original choir's director. The choir performs without amplification in all venues, and performs the original choir's repertoire. A repertoire so unique, it is rarely heard in the Western world. Hibka is unusually dedicated to Serge Jaroff, devoting his life to the furtherance of Jaroff's art and reserving his voice for Russian music only. (Information primarily taken from liner notes.)
