Fantje na vasi is a small male ensemble based in Ohio that specializes in classical and sacred music, often sung in Slovenian. On this CD, they sing a carefully themed selection of songs. The pieces are organized into five groups, with narration (in English) by Mojca Slak for each group. The pieces in the first group were chosen in special honor of Pope John Paul II during his 25th anniversary year, and include J.S. Bach's "Ave Maria," in recognition of the fact that Pope John Paul II credited the blessed Virgin Mary for his survival of the assassination attempt upon him. Most of the album's selections are accompanied by piano and violins. The CD was recorded in St. Mary's Church in Collinwood, OH. Most of the liner notes are in Slovenian, as are many of the songs. There are some Latin and English pieces as well. (69:12)
