As you're listening to the scat rising above the jazz waltz on opener "Triptych" you can easily forget this is a medley of Ukrainian folk songs… until the next song in the medley flows in seamlessly with the distinctive Slavic sound. Mansound is a male sextet with a very distinctive and contemporary vision of how to sing traditional music. The jazz and pop infusions make the songs fresh and new - and very enjoyable! - but they are ever so delicately melded with the traditional. The ensemble is tight, well blended, precisely in tune and capable of welling to intense emotional highs at a moment's notice. One of the seven tracks has a guitar (and a female guest soloist). The only thing you could ask of this CD is more, more, more! (29:59 2003)
