This 1997 release is a new direction for Zap Mama in several dimensions. The ensemble leader Marie Daulne is all that remains of the original group - this is a solo effort for her, backed up by a wide variety of instruments and other sounds. It remains, however, a global music adventure, mixing African and Western influences in a variety of sounds. Some songs are in English ("Nostalgie Amoureuse," "New World") while others are in French ("Téléphone," "Illioí") and perhaps some other languages as well. We recognized Phoebe Snow's "Poetry Man." World music fans will definitely enjoy this one, but we of course miss Zap Mama's a cappella sound.
