There are only a few cultures that include a cappella 'throat singing,' in which a guttural sound generates multiple harmonics or overtones. The island of Sardinia is the only one we know of which has a tradition of four part harmony including throat singing, known as Canto a Tenore. The Tenores di Bitti are perhaps the best known singers in this style, so we're glad we stumbled across this 1996 release of their 1986 recording. The sound is astonishing to hear - part Tuva throat singing, part barbershop quartet, part East European ornamentation. World music fans will find this to be an exotic addition to their collection.
