Few traditional polyphony styles can trace their roots as far back as those on Sardinia, which go back as far as 3000 B.C. This impressive collection of a dozen songs from the oral tradition is thankfully accompanied with both textual and photographic explanation of the songs and the style, which has elements of barbershop, East European and Asian singing. The texts range in subject from poetry about nature ("Monte Seris") and dancing ("Sa Ballerina") to romantic love ("T'amo") and the importance of a mother's love ("S'amore 'e mama"). (40:42 1996)
