This is the first volume in a collaborative project between Northern Harmony's Patty Cuyler and Matlakala Bopape from South Africa, to publish SATB choral arrangements of South African folk, church, protest and indigenous soungs. The book includes background essays and written transcriptions in both western notation and tonic sol-fa, and is accompanied by a CD of performances of the pieces, a teaching CD with texts read and various individual parts sung to help people learn by ear. There are also plans for a dance DVD to help people learn the dances that go along with the songs. This DVD is not included in the first run of books, but there is a mail-in coupon for the DVD, due out in late fall 2004. The DVD is included in the $40.00 price. There is an additional shipping charge of $1.50 for this item.
