From the liner notes:
When you think of groups that have gained critical acclaim for being so innovative and having such a wide and varied range of voices, there is one group of men that always springs to mind. The group brought the harmonics of popular music to a standard that previously only the Four Freshmen had been associated with.
In 1953 Gene Puerling and friend Bob Strasen met up with Clark Burroughs and Bob Morse (who at the time were vocalists with the Encores), the Encores were the vocal group for the Billy May Band. Eventually when the Billy May Band stopped travelling the four men got together and formed The Hi-Lo's
In their varied career the quartet have earned three Grammy nominations.
In 1962, the group made their last appearance performing at the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas...
An invitation to perform at the Monterey Jazz Festival of 1977 led to the group being reunited for the first time in 14 years.
Tony Marsh, 2006 (excerpts)
