From the publisher: This arrangement of the beloved carol gives the melody almost exlusively to the basses. Since basses are often given no more than a harmonically supporting role, this scoring gives an opportunity to work with lower voices on how to sing an inviting, expressive melody. The text, character, and narrative of the piece depend on how convincingly the basses convey their line.
