The members of this London quartet, having performed together for over 20 years, thought about this lullabye project for some time. Everyone who hears this CD will be very glad that the group were able to bring this dream to fruition. The list of 23 cuts encompasses many genres including opera, jazz, folk-song and popular cinema. Cantabile's rendition of "Lullaby of Birdland" is fresh and unique. "Cancion de Cuna para dormir a un Negrito," a not-often-heard selection from contemporary composer Xavier Montsalvatge's "Cinco Canciones Negras (Five Black Songs)" is sung so tenderly, the listener is virtually transported cradle-side. No one familiar with this group will be surprised at their beautiful handling of the classical "Wiegenlied," but you have to hear their comical "Counting Up My Toes" to appreciate the range and appeal of this album. Most of us, like the four members of this quartet have "after all, paced the floor, babe in arms, singing all our various children (and often ourselves) to sleep..., " and will find this lovely music close to our hearts. Cantabile's new Christmas album, as always, has a little bit of everything; folk carols from Austria & Ireland, mediaeval carols from Britain & Spain, English & Welsh artsong, pop songs from the 40s, 50s & 70s, a silly rendition with Sound FX [!] of The Twelve Days of Christmas, and Carol - which lasts just a few minutes, but manages to tell the Christmas story using just 28 of Cantabile's favourite carols. This last number was runner-up in the category 'best Christmas track' in the 2004 CARA awards. Also listeners can choose their language for a Compagnons de la Chanson song - either English [The Jimmy Brown Song] or the original French [Les Trois Cloches].Not forgetting Tom Lehrer's sardonic take on Christmas, and a song about raucous peasant Carol Singers. From the sublime to the ridiculous…… Christmas with Cantabile!

This four-man group from Great Britain shows just why they've been described as"versatile," "hard-to-pin-down," and above all "Outstanding!" Theselections included here range from the very classical ("Deo Gratias") tothe contemporary ("Goodnight Sweetheart, Goodnight"), with a littleBroadway and Elvis thrown in for good measure. Two of the songs havespoken German intros, all are a cappella, and all are done very well. Weare proud to have added these talented musicians to our collection, andyou will be too! (40:24 1993)

This 2002 release by Cantabile has a little bit of everything - classical (Weelkes' "Hark, all ye lovely Saints above," "Byrd's "Agnus Dei," Passereau's "Il est bel et bon"), jazz (Gershwin's "Summertime," Gene Puerling's arrangement of "My Romance") and pop (an ingenious medley featuring 10-20 second snippets of no fewer than 18 Beatles songs, "Goodnight Sweetheart, Goodnight") and contemporary classical (Paul McCartney's "A Good-Night" from his Garland for Linda). Their sound is clean, polished and surprisingly full for just four men. Some of the humor is hard to "get" from just the audio, but judging from the audience's response, their show is very entertaining! (44:16 2002)
