Brentwood Academy Singers: The Academy Singers 2005

Well ya know what, folks? This album is NOT a cappella - and it's SO good that we're not even going to THINK of apologizing for that fact. And once you listen to the clips below, we think you'll agree. These high school kids have great arrangements (that'll rival and beat many of the college groups' we've heard), awesome voices, a GREAT band, solid production, and a stylistic presence that belies their tender years. Whether they're doing contemporary country (like opener "Somebody Like You"), or rock (like the Jason Mraz hit "The Remedy") or contemporary Christian (like "You Said" or "Blessed Assurance"), or classical jazz ("In a Mellowtone") - they do it all, and do it all WELL! A cappella numbers included here are "There Will Never Be Another Reason" (gorgeous, lush, contemporary harmonies), passionate "The Lord's Prayer" and BOHSA-worthy "Total Eclipse of the Heart." (these are HIGH SCHOOL KIDS?!!?) And who would've thought that "Wayfaring Stranger" could be done a la Stevie Ray Vaughan?? Gotta pick this one up for your libraries, folks. Just gotta do it...

The Brentwood Academy Singers are a mixed group from Brentwood Academy Christian school in Tennessee, and have appeared on the BOHSA (Best of High School A Cappella) compilation CD three (!) times - in 2004, 2005, & 2006. (52:20 2005)
