Simply spectacular! The debut CD by Toronto's Cadence foretells a long and distinguished career, we hope, by these four creative guys. Their songs are all covers (except for the original "Lullaby for Hannah") - but what a great selection! They funk out on two Stevie Wonder tunes: "Boogie On Reggae Woman" and "I Wish," with tasty vocal percussion, vocal guitar licks and even a top-rate "vocal harmonica." Paul Simon's "Feelin' Groovy" is elegant simplicity, while their take on Simon's "Slim Punky's Dilemma" is one of the more inventive arrangements we've heard, effortlessly morphing from cool swing to techno-rap and back again. Their new millennium reworking of "Drive My Car" really kicks, yet they manage to jazz "Straighten Up and Fly Right" just right! (49:16 2000)
