From the preface: These Easter Carols are among the first arrangements on which Robert Shaw and I collaborated. The titles were selected from hundreds of familiar and forgotten works; our criteria were musical and poetic excellence. We learned to make the arrangements as simple as possible, in order to let the words shine through the choral tone and texture.
