Known worldwide as an innovator among classical women's choruses, the Elektra Women's Choir presents on this disc a stimulating collection of fresh Christmas repertoire, all in English. Nine of the short works are by living Canadian composers, while the other four are from Norway, England and the U.S. Some are a cappella ("Adam Lay Yboundedn," "O My Dear Heart") while others are lightly accompanied. The latter includes a 22-minute work by Derek Holman, "Sir Christëmas" with texts from 15th and 16th century England. With gorgeous, nuanced singing this CD will bring you much holiday cheer.
