This Tennessee trio of studio singers and friends created this opus of a Christmas album in 1985, not knowing just how popular it would become in the a cappella community - and how sad so many people would be when it went missing for a while. Thankfully, Discovery House Music picked it back up in 2005 and we're happy to have it back in the catalog!
These arrangements of Christmas classics, old and new, are all sung in a thick, lush, jazz-tinged vocal style by the members of First Call - Bonnie Keen, Melodie Tunney and Marty McCall - with friends Steven Taylor, Dave Boyer, Cynthia Clawson, Kelly Nelon and David Meece. Shades of Singers Unlimited abound, with their interesting harmonies, and multi-dimensional sound. Even the traditional carols and hymns ("Lo! How a Rose E're Blooming," "The First Noel") get a fresh treatment here. Take a listen to the sound files below to see just how special this album is. "We have had a cassette since 1985, when it first came out. It is warn out and we are excited to find it on CD. This has become a part of our family’s Christmas. We have found that the great a-cappella music is perfect for celebrating the birth of Jesus. We enjoy the arrangements of the classic Christmas carols and the fun New Twelve Days of Christmas. This is a must have on CD."

"I am so excited to find this music in CD format. My cassettes are pretty beat up. The lyrics and melodies sung by First Call go straight to your heart and your mental music catalog, so you can have Christmas anytime all year when the songs pop up in your memory banks. Thanks for finding the CD's so we can share this great music with the "What's a cassette?" generation. "

"I LOVE the harmonies that David Maddux wrote for this set of CDs. The harmonies are very complicated and full. I was in a fairly talented group of singers who worked on the music and we had to start in June to perfect it in time for Christmas. Made me appreciate the excellent job that First Call did on the CDs. I have looked for these in stores for years and couldn't find them. I was so excited to see they've been re-released. Same tunes but different album cover. This series is my favorite a-cappella Christmas CDs. I better back them up before I wear them out like I did the cassettes way back when!"

"Since 1985 An Evening In December has joined our family by the fire. We all know the songs and sing along. This is the only album we have aver done this to. The title track is heartwarming and brings memories of times long ago and not so far away. When you close your eyes the music will flow directly to your soul refreshing your Christmas Spirit. I give this albumn Five stars! This is a MUST HAVE! "
