From the funky, groovy opening "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," you know you're not in for your basic Christmas recording. These boys from Minnesota can morph from funky blue-eyed soul to a muted brass quartet on "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch." They just as easily handle traditional arrangements here and there ("O Holy Night," "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel," even Biebl's "Ave Maria!"). The one original, "That Time of Year" from group member Andrew Tullar, is a melodic, upbeat reflection on the real meaning of the holidays. They also schmooze with the best lounge singer on "The Christmas Song" and "Blue Christmas." A second recording by this talented young quartet. (36:37 2001)
