"Insideout A Cappella remains the best example of where the a cappella universe needs to be headed. There will always be a place for stodgy, traditional methodologies, but audiences are transfixed by Insideout. For that matter, they are transfixed by any group who can sound like a full blown film score--sound effects and all.
I don't understand why so many purists in the contemporary a cappella arena are afraid to make full use of the recording studio arsenal.
Not only is Insideout refreshingly uninhibited about the use of FX processors and overdubbing, they are also really good singers. The purist might prefer the track "Innocence" fro m Insideout's debut album of the same title. However, I find the studio-fied version, "Innocence II" superior in every respect. In fact, it is superior to any a cappella recording made in the past twenty years.
Nobody but nobody can believe all that power and versatility came from the human voice whenever I play it for them.
I'd like to tell you that "Sharing Time" is better than its predecessor (the bestselling CD titled "Primary Colors"). I'd like to tell you it is the best CD ever, but that would be stupid.
First of all, you're an idiot if you don't have both CDs. They belong right beside one another on your shelf, and so I can't pretend I like one better than the other.
Secondly, if you're not a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day saints, you probably won't catch a lot of the humor. Both CDs poke fun at things in Mormon culture that might be lost on you if you have no point of reference.
That said, there is nothing in this CD you would dislike or find offensive if you are of a different faith (or atheist or whatever).
Unlike 90% of the stuff out there, this CD is perfectly appropriate for children of all ages. Not only appropriate, but fun.
It's one of those rare CDs you can play in the car on long road trips, and neither the kids nor the adults will complain about having to listen to it.
Nothing against Barney or the Wiggles, but you probably know what I mean.
Primary Colors and Sharing Time are pure kids stuff, but adults will love listening and singing along."
