"American Angels" is the diary of Anonymous 4's first journey to the roots of Anglo-American spiritual vocal music. The CD from which this music is taken includes 18th-century psalm settings and fuging tunes from rural New England, 19th-century folk hymns and camp revival songs from the rural South, and gospel songs originating in Northeastern cities and adopted in the late 19th century by rural Southerners. Journey is one of five published sets of tunes on the "American Angels" CD. Generous performance notes in the sheet music provide background on the songs included.
