What a lovely CD! This college group has a maturity of sound that not only surprising (for their ages) but is also very easy on the ears. They do beautiful justice to the great American songbook on this album, featuring folk songs, spirituals, songs from the Wild West and gospel songs. Their energy is palpative; their execution is spot-on; their tuning and blend are pretty much perfect - what's not to like? Young director Brady Allred sure knows what he's doing - let's hope he continues to do it with groups like this for years to come! Some of the songs are lightly accompanied with piano, acoustic guitar and the fiddle (as in the rousing jig "Bile Them Cabbage Down"), but only where it accentuates the overall effect of the piece. This is a great CD to add to your choral collection. (77:15 2005)
